Training leaders gather at Advanced Learning Technologies Summt to experience the future of learning

Research Triangle Park NC, May 15, 2008

The North Carolina Advanced Learning Technologies Association (NC ALTA), of which American Research Institute is a founding member, held its first Advanced Learning Technologies Summit in Cary, NC on May 13th and 14th. Over 150 business leaders attended the event where they learned how serious games, virtual worlds, social networks and robotics are being used to inspire, educate and train the “next-gen” workforce.

In addition to seeing examples of Advanced Learning Technologies in use, the attendees also heard from thought leaders who explained why these technologies were important and how to implement them.

One of the Cisco attendees said: “It is clear that Cisco’s vision of changing the way we work, live, play, and learn has arrived. With fewer experts and less time dedicated to training, we must transform the learning experience so that it becomes a natural part of the workday. These advanced technologies bring to life the feeling of knowing, seeing, and doing, in fun, safe, practice environments. The NC-ALTA Summit was an excellent opportunity to meet leaders of experiential learning and generate ideas for WWSE’s next generation of learning.”

Each attendee was given a wireless audience response pad so they could answer questions and provide immediate feedback to speakers. These devices were used to make frequent use of polls, quizzes, and other means to garner a response from everyone in the audience.

The conference also featured a robotics competion where local high schools demonstrated robots they had built. You can see an interview with one of the participants at http://www.wral.com/business/local_tech_wire/video/2908603/.
